DE MEEUW CREATES A SPACE FOR ALL KINDS OF OPERATIONS
On behalf of primary contractor, Interflow and partner Cyclusbouw, De Meeuw Building Systems has built a modern new operating theatre complex at Alkmaar Medical Centre (MCA). The project comprised the modular build of four operating theatres as an extension of the existing complex. More information is available on the MCA website.
MCA opted for a ready-made concept by Interflow for its new operating theatres. The component parts were built entirely in the De Meeuw factories, with the technical amenities having been integrated in partnership with Interflow. The advantages of this approach are numerous: short build time, minimal disruption on the site, and a building that can continually evolve to meet changing needs. The new operating theatre complex was placed on top of a steel construction ready to adjoin the existing building. The theatres are spacious, fitted with the latest technology and fully comply with all legal regulations.
In the past, projects like these would have been delivered with a view to them lasting more than thirty years. Given the fast pace of technological development within health care, it is important to continue to improve and adapt. As such, a flexible approach is becoming more and more preferable. Flexible builds offer this degree of flexibility. Lead times are short and, moreover, the design allows for the possibility to partially or fully move the operating theatre modules between sites.
